BACKGROUND & TRAINING

Dev Mahadevan is the Specialty Lead for Foot and Ankle surgery and Clinical Director of Orthopaedic and Trauma surgery at Royal Berkshire Hospital. His private practice is based across all three major private hospitals in Reading including Circle Reading, Berkshire Independent and Spire Dunedin Hospitals.

 

He graduated from the University of Nottingham and completed his specialist Orthopaedic training in the East Midlands Deanery. Once qualified as an Orthopaedic Surgeon, he then went on to complete his advanced subspecialty fellowship training in foot and ankle surgery at the renowned Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol. His major clinical interest is in arthroscopic and endoscopic (keyhole surgery) treatment of ankle and foot conditions.

 

Dev believes in a patient centred and outcome driven approach to managing foot and ankle pathologies. Patients can be reassured that most conditions can be effectively managed through non-operative treatment.

RESEARCH & PUBLICATIONS

Dev Mahadevan is honoured to be an elected member of the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society Scientific Committee. He also sits on the European Foot & Ankle Society Research Committee. With a large portfolio of peer-reviewed research publications combined with national and international research presentations, he is well respected in this field. His particular research interest is on bunion correction, arthritis, Morton's neuroma and Achilles tendon disorders.

TRAINING SURGEONS

Dev Mahadevan is very passionate about training the next generation of surgeons. He is a faculty member of several acclaimed orthopaedic courses including the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Principles Course and the Chesterfield, Sheffield and Derby FRCS (Tr&Orth) Clinical Examination Course. He has taught surgical techniques at international meetings and been a guest speaker at several international webinars and symposia. He is also the educational supervisor to several orthopaedic surgical trainees who train at Royal Berkshire Hospital. He has thrice been nominated for Trainer of the Year by orthopaedic trainees from the Oxford and North West London deaneries.

PERSONAL INTERESTS

Outside of work, Dev enjoys travelling, keeping fit and supporting Liverpool FC. In his younger years, he was a competitive track and field athlete and enjoyed his racquet sports.​
